Venezuelan Government (Artist) — portfolio of Alejandro Enrique
Not a government website. “Venezuelan Government” is a net-art project by Alejandro Enrique, a Venezuelan experimental artist, net-artist and developer. This site is his portfolio: an explorable three-dimensional environment built with WebGL that presents his work across music, fashion, visual art, tattooing and 3D texture art.
About Alejandro Enrique
Alejandro Enrique (born 3 March 1999) was born and raised in Anzoátegui, Venezuela. He has been the sole author of the Venezuelan Government project since 2019, and is a member of the Nettime community, the moderated mailing list for net criticism, on which he has published the bilingual essay “Planned obsolescence in AR/XR tech” (2024) on the deliberate sunsetting of consumer XR hardware. He is an experimental artist working primarily in net art: his practice treats the browser and the GPU as a medium rather than a display surface, and much of his work exists as an environment to be walked through rather than an object to be looked at. He describes it as an observant analysis of Venezuelan history, working from inside the culture he documents.
His work moves between music, fashion, digital and traditional visual art, 3D computer graphics and experimental website development. He works as a painter and muralist, as a tattoo artist, and as a multi-instrumentalist. His professional career began in 2014, when his entry placed runner-up in Valve's merchandise contest for Team Fortress 2 — the Demoman quote t-shirt, still listed on the Steam Workshop. That led to a position as a licensed merchandise artist at WeLoveFine, the Los Angeles licensing company later rebranded as For Fans By Fans, which clears artwork directly with the studios and publishers that own the properties. Mostly apparel design, his work was produced for Marvel Comics (Gwenpool, Deadpool and others), Star Wars, Team Fortress 2, Cartoon Network's Steven Universe and Homestuck, and sold through brick-and-mortar retail including Hot Topic. He has since worked as an independent portrait artist for private clients, specialising in Dungeons & Dragons.
He is a member of the ARR8 art collective, whose Venezuelan political figurines were covered by AP News, The Guardian and BBC Mundo.
He is also known for custom texture work for video games — among them more than a hundred complete sets for Toribash — and for GACETA OFFICIAL, the satirical fashion brand he trademarked in 2022.
He trained in tattoo and piercing body arts at the Valencian School of Health Studies (EVES) in Spain, and works across digital and physical mediums. Among his published credits is the Deep Rock Galactic “Mission Controlled” community comic.
Musically he came up in El Tigre, where he became known as a dembow artist for “BAZUKA (Ella quiere la)”. His production is built on percussion, and the instruments he plays include the trompa guajira, the didgeridoo, the jaw harp, a Hohner Pokerwork melodeon and a Scholer concertina — several of which he built himself.
What is in this portfolio
The site opens on a main hub and leads into areas built around each of his disciplines. You move between them on foot, and the rooms change what they show each time you return to them.
- 3D
- A dot-matrix display and a set of hover films, alongside his Toribash figure work: humanoid models assembled from 39 separately texturable body parts, each with its own UV mapping, so a completed set is a character rather than a single mesh.
- Art
- Twenty-five works with titles, dimensions, dates and commissions, including the large-scale murals Haven (2022), Toris (2024), MGS (2024), Tapestry (2026) and the black-and-white studies Venequidad and Indios (2025).
- Clothes
- GACETA OFFICIAL garments, re-textured live on the model each visit, alongside the tattoo compositions.
- Music
- Twenty-two tracks on a working turntable with per-track lighting cues derived from each song's own onsets, plus an ambient bed. The lighting is not random: the cue sheet is generated from the audio.
- Contact
- A swipeable contact card.
- About
- The background to the project, set as a reading page.
About this site
The experience is built in WebGL on top of Three.js, with Draco-compressed geometry and a real-time audio engine. The dot-matrix panels — the language selector, the room displays and the loading screen — share a single 5×7 LED typeface and a 1-bit display format: one bit per dot, packed row by row.
It is deliberately modelled on early net art, in the lineage of mouchette.org and wwwwwwww.jodi.org, where there was no settled idea of what art on the internet was for. Navigation is intentionally a little cryptic. The walls are re-decaled on every visit from a pool of several hundred images.
